Service Description

After a general survey, some trees might need a more detailed inspection, especially for areas of concern or features/defects. This may include an aerial inspection, which is particularly important where there are features that need to be checked for the presence of bats or nesting birds before any work can take place. Sometimes detailed measuring and record taking, identification of pests, diseases or fungi is needed. As part of this process, internal investigation of the structure may be required to compare the proportion of decayed and healthy tissues. One option is a Resistograph – a micro drill which records drilling resistance in the wood. It provides a read out that can be analysed to compare the wood quality within the tree against a benchmark, healthy wood of the same species. Alternatively, non-invasive methods are available that take a snapshot of the inside of the tree using electrical impedance tomography or by measuring the speed at which sound waves travel through the wood - sonic tomography. This allows interpretation of the structural integrity of the wood throughout the section of tree sampled.
